Paysandú, Uruguay. July 09, 2025.- As part of an ongoing dialogue process with the community and the government of Uruguay, HIF Global has presented a revised version of its e-Fuels project in the Paysandú Department. The updated proposal includes engineering and design adjustments to improve the project's environmental and territorial integration, while maintaining the original investment scale, construction timeline, and job projections.
Key changes include a 35% reduction in the facility total area compared to the original design. This new layout decreases native forest impact by 70% and expands the biodiversity reserve area to 260 hectares. In addition, the chimneys have been relocated to the northeast, reducing their visibility from the facility perimeter.
The redesign was possible through a reengineering process and the adoption of technologies that improve space and resource efficiency. For example, the original closed-loop cooling system has been replaced with cooling towers, reducing the built area while maintaining sustainable water consumption levels.
The total planned investment remains USD 6 billion, with USD 4 billion allocated to the e-Fuels facility and USD 2 billion to the associated renewable energy parks.
Job creation estimates are also unchanged, with up to 3,200 workers expected at the peak of construction, and 300 direct and 300 indirect jobs during the operational phase. HIF Global plans to begin construction in the second half of 2026, with project completion expected in 2029.
Recently, HIF Global signed agreements to advance on the purchase of the 100% of the first module of e-Fuels production in Uruguay.
